Independent VariablesThe independent variable in an experiment is the variable that the investigator purposely changes to produce an outcome. A helpful tip to remember what the independent variable is: think about the phrase "I change it". Both the phrase and the word independent begin with the letter I. Or some people even choose to think of it as the manipulated variable.
